RaceMetrics Sectionals now includes two new tabs: Position and Running Style. Together they show where each horse ran during a race and how to classify its effort.
Position
The Position tab displays each runner's place in the field at every section of the race — first, second and third — along with the lengths back from the leader. Cells are shaded by how fast that section was run.
The chart inverts the axis so the leader sits at the top, allowing you to track the race unfold: who broke fast, who was buried, and the exact furlong at which the winner began its move.
In the Royal Hunt Cup, the difference is stark. Scoville led early but drained away through the final two furlongs, whilst Rogue Diplomat climbed from the back of the field to win on the line — a race that suited the held-up horse.
Running Style
The Running Style tab converts positions into a label. Each horse is classified as Front Runner, Prominent, Stalker, Mid-Division, Closer or Held Up, colour-coded for quick reference.
The position-movement table displays start, middle and finish positions side by side, with a Gained-or-Lost column showing the total ground each horse made up or surrendered.
Reading the Race
These tables form the foundation of a pace read. A race full of front runners will often collapse and hand victory to the closers; a lone leader in a steadily-run race frequently gets away. Understanding how a field likes to run — before they run — starts with how they ran last time.
