RaceMetrics has released two profile signals that distil sectionals data into actionable reads on any horse's record: Distance DNA and Full of Running.

Distance DNA

Winning horses share a telltale stride rhythm at each trip. Cadence falls steadily as races get longer — from around 2.4 strides per second at five and six furlongs, down to about 2.1 strides per second over two miles and beyond.

Distance DNA compares a horse's own cadence to those winning benchmarks at the trips it has been running. A horse galloping markedly slower in cadence than winners at its trips profiles as Built for Further — it will relish a step up in distance. A horse galloping quicker is better suited to sharper trips.

The signal requires at least three measured stride runs to generate.

Full of Running

The Full-of-Running flag (marked FoR LTO on profiles) identifies a beaten horse that finished with plenty left in the tank last time out. The horse recorded a top-two run-out speed measured two seconds past the post and finished faster than par — yet did not win.

Horses carrying this flag win about 16 per cent of the time next start, against a 10 per cent baseline. On upcoming racecards, the FoR LTO pill appears in green next to the horse's name, and a notification rounds up all flagged runners on the mornings they are declared.
