This week’s RM7 carries a £100 prize fund — £50 for first, £30 for second and £20 for third, all paid as cash. That is the biggest fund the competition has run since March, and it is still free to enter.

The competition runs from Tuesday 28 July to Sunday 2 August. Entries close at 13:20 on Tuesday, shortly before the first race of the day.

What RM7 actually is

RM7 is a weekly, skill-based competition built on the RaceMetrics ratings. You pick seven participants — one horse, one trainer, one jockey, one sire, one dam, one damsire and one owner — and they score for you all week.

Scoring is simply the total change in their RaceMetrics Ratings between Tuesday and Sunday. Every winner, every placed run and every below-par effort moves a rating, so your team is live from the first race of the week to the last.

The budget is the whole game

You have 10,500 points to spend, and each participant costs its current RaceMetrics Rating. A top-rated horse or a champion trainer eats a large slice of the budget, so the question every week is the same one: do you pay up for a proven name, or find seven improving profiles that still have room to climb?

Rating change is what scores — not rating level — so an expensive pick has to keep improving to justify its price. That is where the competition is usually won.

One rule to watch: you cannot select a horse and any of its own connections (its trainer, sire, dam, damsire or owner). It stops a single good run counting several times over.

Why this week is worth an entry

Recent weeks have drawn somewhere between 14 and 20 entries. With a £100 fund split three ways, the field is small relative to the prize money — and there is no entry fee to recover.
