What Wins: Finding Profitable Betting Patterns in Your Racecards

What Wins is a pattern discovery tool built into RaceMetrics that identifies historical edges in racing data. Rather than guessing which horses might perform well, it analyses how specific participants have actually performed under defined conditions, then quantifies those results as Impact Value scores.

How to Access What Wins

The feature is available to Basic tier subscribers and above. Open any racecard, switch to the Form Expert view, and click the What Wins button in the control bar. The analysis runs instantly across your selected race.

What is Impact Value?

Impact Value (IV) measures how much a participant outperforms random expectation under specific conditions. The calculation is straightforward: actual wins divided by expected wins based on field size.

An IV of 1.0x means a horse wins at the expected rate. A score of 1.5x indicates 50% better performance than chance. At 2.0x, a participant wins twice as often as statistically expected. Scores of 3.0x and above represent exceptional, significant edges.

Eleven Filter Combinations

What Wins analyses performance across 11 different condition filters:

  • Going (surface conditions)
  • Class level
  • Course
  • Distance range
  • Field size
  • Going + Class combined
  • Going + Distance
  • Class + Distance
  • Course + Distance
  • Going + Class + Distance

This multi-layered approach reveals whether a horse's edge holds under specific combinations of circumstances or appears only in isolation.

Why This Matters

Pattern-based analysis removes opinion from horse selection. Instead of relying on form reading or commentary, you're examining quantified historical performance. A horse with a 2.5x IV in today's exact conditions has genuinely outperformed expectation under those circumstances.

What Wins doesn't predict future results—it documents what has already happened. That historical data becomes your edge when similar situations arise.
