Trip Predictor: Find Every Horse's Winning Formula

Every horse runs best under certain conditions. Trip Predictor identifies those conditions by analysing every prior run and surfacing the going, distance, class, surface and field size where each horse performs strongest. When today's race matches a horse's optimal trip, you know.

Where to find it

Open any horse's profile and click the Trip Predictor tab in the profile tab bar, positioned right after Command Centre. The feature is available on horse profiles only — trainer, jockey and sire profiles are out of scope by design.

Reading the hero cards

The top of the tab displays a row of cards, each showing one optimal trip dimension with a confidence level (high, medium or low):

  • Going (Turf) — best going on turf courses, computed only from turf runs
  • Going (Polytrack) — best going on Polytrack surfaces
  • Going (Tapeta) — best going on Tapeta courses. Kept separate because horses often prefer one synthetic surface over another
  • Distance — optimal distance band using the same brackets as Form Expert
  • Class — best race class (1 = highest grade, 7 = lowest)
  • Surface — overall surface preference across all types

Going cards are stratified by surface because turf and all-weather goings are not directly comparable. A card appears only if the horse has three or more runs on that surface.

The trend strip

Below the hero cards, a one-line summary shows total runs, overall confidence level across all dimensions, and form trend. Trend is calculated via linear regression on the horse's RaceMetrics Rating over the last eight runs: ↑ improving, → peak, ↓ declining, or ? unknown.

Use Trip Predictor to identify races where conditions align with a horse's strengths, then cross-reference with current form and opposition.
