Draw & Pace: Tactical Advantage at a Glance

Draw & Pace is an Enterprise-exclusive racecard tool that reveals whether each runner has the right draw and running style for the race ahead. For flat races, it cross-references historical draw position performance with how each horse typically races. For jumps races, it focuses on running style alone.

How to Access

Open any racecard and click the amber Draw & Pace tab, marked with an E badge for Enterprise users. Data loads on demand the first time you click it and is cached for 30 minutes.

Course DNA Banner

At the top of the tab, a summary banner shows the historically favoured draw group and running style at that course and distance. For example: "Low draws + Led style favoured at 1m (IV 1.58)". This gives you an instant picture of the tactical landscape without diving into detail.

These trends are based on reliable sample sizes — at least 20 runs per draw group and 30 runs for pace style — to avoid small-sample outliers.

Pace Forecast

The tool predicts whether the race will be run at strong, moderate, or slow pace based on how many runners are typically leaders, prominent runners, or held-up horses:

  • Strong: Three or more likely leaders; expect fast early tempo that may suit closers
  • Moderate: One or two leaders; fair tempo throughout
  • Slow: No clear leaders; may suit prominent racers who can gain ground early

Running Styles Explained

Every runner's historical pace profile is classified into three categories:

  • Led: Typically races at or near the front from the start
  • Prominent: Races handy, usually in the first third to half of the field
  • Held Up: Typically races at the back and finishes strongly

By matching each horse's natural running style against the likely pace of the race and the favoured tactical position at the track, you can identify which runners have a genuine tactical edge.
