Constitution Hill shines on flat debut
Constitution Hill returned to winning ways with a decisive switch to the Flat at the Road To Cheltenham Novice Stakes at Southwell. The nine-year-old, trained by Nicky Henderson and ridden by Oisin Murphy, won by nine-and-a-half lengths from Square Necker and Gambino over a mile and a half.
The National Hunt campaigner had won his first 10 races before suffering three defeats in four outings over jumps. Henderson's decision to contest a Flat novice race represents a change of approach as Constitution Hill prepares for a potential return to the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham Festival in March, which he won in 2023.
Constitution Hill started as 6-4 favourite and took the lead well before the finish line to secure the victory.
